SAUTER Smart Shading
Description
SAUTER Smart Shading: automated shade management in buildings
SAUTER offers the Smart Shading application which optimises the use of daylight to ensure optimum occupant comfort and maximum energy efficiency. In this way, SAUTER Smart Shading helps to regulate the room climate, reduces heating and cooling loads and lowers operating costs.
Smart Shading, a further step forward in building automation and comfort
Smart Shading automatically adjusts the angle and position of blinds and slats according to the position of the sun and the surrounding shading factors.
In its calculations and settings, Smart Shading takes into account the annual shading, the movement of the sun during the day, the position of a window façade, the position of neighbouring buildings and their projected shadows.
When a shadow from a surrounding element is cast, the blind will open to allow light into the building. For example, if a large tree provides shade in the summer and loses its leaves in the autumn, Smart Shading will take this into account when managing the seasonal openings.
Parameter storage and programming
The detailed parameters of the shadow projectors around the building (neighbouring buildings, trees, ...) are recorded once, allowing a unique cartographic representation of the building and a 3D modelling of the data.
The calculations are then performed for a whole year, at 15 minute intervals. A map display integrated in the application guides the input of the position and orientation of the buildings and the shadow projectors.
Based on this data, the program calculates the required shading for the different areas and creates a shading correction time table. This is the "Shadow Schedule" module. This module is used on the ecos504/505 room controllers.
Integration with BACnet
The shading status is integrated in the BACnet priority matrix between the manual control level and the automatic sun protection function, which ensures that the sun protection can be controlled manually and adapted to the user's specific needs.
The blinds in the rooms are controlled either directly by the SAUTER ecoLink I/O modules via relay contacts or digitally via the integrated KNX or SMI interface of the ecos504/505 room controllers and the corresponding KNX actuators or SMI monitors.
The new Smart Shading application in combination with the room temperature and lighting control systems offers optimal energy consumption and ensures optimum working conditions for the occupants. Smart Shading is intelligent, modular and open. Smart Shading from SAUTER meets the requirements of VDI guidelines 3813 and 3814.
