Description

Fatima Gamboa is a lawyer, member of the Mayan indigenous people and activist for lesbian women's rights; currently, she is Co-Executive Director of EQUIS: Justicia para las Mujeres A.C. Fatima is an expert in Indigenous Peoples' Rights and International Cooperation from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, and holds a Master's Degree in Human Rights from Universidad Iberoamericana. She also worked as a litigation lawyer in the civil organization Centro Alternativo para el Desarrollo Integral Indígena, A.C., is founder of the Colectivo Ma'alob Kuxtal and is a member of organizations such as the Red Nacional de Abogadas Indígenas en México and the Red Latinoamericana de Justicia Abierta (Latin American Network of Open Justice). Her areas of expertise are open justice, transparency and citizen participation in the judiciary, as well as judging with a gender and intercultural perspective. Her contributions include the design and implementation of intervention projects in indigenous communities, and she has also conducted research and action projects on issues related to the delivery of justice with a gender perspective, judicial transparency and intercultural justice. Fatima has lectured on law, gender and feminism and has written several opinion articles in media such as Animal Político, Reforma newspaper, and Nexos magazine; she is also a contributor to the feminist magazine Pikara Magazine.
